1904-1905
A colonial conflict between the weak old empire of Russia and the rising power of Japan. It left Russia crumbling with disgraceful defeat that destroyed its navy and national pride.

Background
The conflict was over the territories of Manchuria in China and Korea.
Events
Japan launched a surprise attack on Port Arthur in 1904. Nicholas II then sent his Baltic Sea Fleet to sail over 33,000 km around the world to go and destroy the japanese navy. As soon as it arrived it was utterly destroyed at the decisive Battle of Tshushima (1905).
Results
Russia lost two thirds of its fleet. They had no other option but to accepted a disgraceful peace treaty at Portsmouth (1905). The peace negotiations were brought together by the American President Theodore Roosevelt.
