1727-1730 Emperor of Russia.

Peter II was the grandson of Peter I. He was the teenage Emperor who spent his 3-year reign feasting, courting women and playing cards. He died on his wedding day of smallpox.

Background
Lived: 1715-1730.
Peter II was the son of Alexey Petrovich and Charlotte of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. His mother died when he was only 10 days old. His father was killed by his grandfather Peter the Great.

Peter II was raised by Peter I’s sister Natalia. He was in many ways similar to his famous grandfather, as he was a very lively boy. But he was not interested in learning or reading. He just loved to party.

Catherine I
After his grandmother Catherine I seized power, Peter was mostly ignored. Two years later, after her death, it was nearly impossible to ignore his existence as the rightful heir to the throne, since the vast majority of the nobles supported his succession.

Reign
After the death of Catherine I, he was declared Emperor and crowned the following year in the Kremlin in the Dormition Cathedral. Despite the fact that he was an autocrat, he had no real power.

For the first few months of his reign, power was in the hands of Alexander Menshikov. Then he was under the direct influence of the Dolgoruky family.

Death
It was arranged that Peter would marry Catherine Dolgorukova, but the young Emperor died of smallpox on the morning of his wedding day.
