Anastasia was the first crowned tsarina of Russia, the first of the total seven wives of Ivan the Terrible. She is significant for being the dynastic link between the Rurik dynasty and the Romanov dynasty.

Background
Lived: 1530-1560.
Anastasia was chosen from the 1,500 candidates of the official bride contest arranged by young Ivan the Terrible. They were married in 1547 at the Cathedral of Annunciation.

Tsarina
Anastasia was also crowned as a consort. It is believed that she had a smoothing impact on the boiling temperament of Ivan.

When Anastasia fell ill and died in 1560, Ivan IV changed. He broken down of grief and became paranoid that the boyars had poisoned his wife.

Family
Anastasia and Ivan had six children. Tsarevich Ivan was murdered by Ivan the Terrible himself. The youngest son Fyodor I became the last ruler of the Rurik dynasty.
